ANTHRAX Guitarist Explains Santiago Cancellation
March 2, 2005ANTHRAX guitarist Scott Ian has posted the following message on the group's official web site:
"Our show in Santiago [Chile] was cancelled [Tuesday night, March 1] by the Chilean Government. Actually, it was cancelled on February 24 but the security company in charge of getting the permit for the show neglected to tell anybody. This company, called Ricardo Alvarez, run by Ricardo Alvarez, an ex-cop (we were told they do security for every show from us to the STONES) were notified on February 24 that the show could not happen. The reason based on what happened in Argentina and then the problems at a show here in Chile that Ricardo Alvarez did the security at. The government refused to give the permit. The local promoters here in Santiago were caught unaware and up until 7:15 p.m. tonight were assured by Ricardo Alvarez that the show would happen. The promoters told Ricardo Alvarez that the police were at the venue and they were forcing everyone out of the building and to stop lying.
"This whole situation sucks and everyone loses, especially the fans.
"The promoters tried to move the show to another venue but couldn't and we offered to play anywhere; a small club, in the street, the hotel, wherever. We just wanted to play. There were 4,000 fans waiting for us and the last thing we wanted was to not be able to play. All we want to do is get on stage and tear it up and the 'powers that be' denied us that privilege.
"Thank you for remaining calm throughout this stressful situation and understanding. The last thing we would want would be for people to get beaten by riot cops.
"We have talked with the promoters and we will be back as soon as possible to make up this show. We know how crazy it would've been especailly after our show here last time on Monstars Of Rock. We couldn't wait to do a full headline set for our Chilean freaks. We will be back Santiago, I promise."
